To set the mood for our journey, meet bordbar, a company that captures the charm of travel. Since 2006, it has transformed authentic aircraft trolleys into timeless design objects for private homes, commercial spaces and imaginative marketing.
As individual as the people who use them
The bordbar design is unmistakable. Part of its success lies in the special interiors and functions available for each trolley. A bordbar can become a mobile office unit, a stylish illuminated bar with a refrigerator, a humidor, a coffee station or a serving trolley for a barbecue.
The story of bed and philosophy
Sonja Provost remembers packing her first orders in the hallway of her home before breakfast in 2009. When the courier rang to collect them, it was also time for the children to leave for school.
The first customers who trusted her personal, unusual linen collection have always held a special place in her heart. Many, perhaps all, became friends over time. The team described here has grown to 15 people who share her values and help develop and present the collection.
As its name suggests, the brand has a distinctive artistic sensitivity that gives both its bed linen and sofas a poetic quality. Look at the photographs of our buying visit to the beautiful old house in Rue de Montmorency, and you will sense what sets it apart from an anonymous department-store linen range.
Sofas and armchairs with soul
It is hard to imagine that Bretz began by making mattresses and traditional furniture. As overseas manufacture and mass production expanded, brothers Norbert and Hartmut Bretz took a new direction in the 1990s: extravagant, colourful, storybook sofas with imaginative names such as Cloud 7, Napali, Ohlinda and Cocoa Island. They appear in clubs, hotels such as the Voshövel spa hotel, and homes where people enjoy distinctive design and comfort.
A great outdoor adventure
DEDON was a pioneer of global luxury outdoor living. Today, many leading furniture makers offer outdoor collections, but when Bobby Dekeyser founded DEDON in 1990, weather-resistant, easy-care luxury furniture for outdoors was rare. Plastic, metal and teak furniture were familiar, yet few established brands combined a distinctive lifestyle with easy maintenance.
A pioneer of luxury outdoor furniture in woven synthetic fibre
DEDON helped pioneer synthetic fibre for garden furniture. Founder Bobby Dekeyser, who inherited Belgian citizenship from his father, has a true entrepreneurial spirit. After a professional football career that included playing goalkeeper for FC Bayern Munich, he chose to leave elite sport and start his own company. Searching for the right product led him to the idea of an outdoor living room, reflecting his lifelong love of being active outside.
