How to Properly Care for Gommaire Furniture

Solid Wood

Teak, Root Wood & Oak

Gommaire mainly works with recycled teak, teak root wood, and aged French oak. These natural woods evolve with their environment and react to temperature, humidity, and light exposure.

A stable indoor climate with approximately 20°C and 40–60% humidity helps protect the wood from cracks or deformation. For regular cleaning, a damp cloth with natural soap is sufficient. If needed, the GOMMAIRE Teak Cleaner or Stain Remover Spray can also be used.

For furniture with a Fumé finish, applying colourless beeswax every two years is recommended to preserve both protection and the subtle sheen of the wood.

Outdoor Teak & Black Finish

Gommaire teak furniture is designed for outdoor living and naturally develops a silver-grey patina over time when exposed to the elements. To preserve the original teak colour, the GOMMAIRE Teak Protector can be applied.

Models with a black finish require slightly more maintenance. Applying WOCA Exterior Wood Oil once a year is recommended to maintain protection and colour depth. Minor cracks can also be treated with the oil if necessary.

CL-Rattan (Natural Rattan)

This semi-flexible natural material is used for baskets and furniture frames. It reacts naturally to humidity and light exposure, which contributes to its authentic and organic character.

For regular care, soapy water is sufficient. Once a year, applying the Teak Protector is recommended. Important to note: rattan is only partially weather-resistant. It can be used outdoors from spring to autumn, but should be stored in a covered area during heavy rain or winter months.

Ceramics & Terracotta

These handcrafted pieces are made from patinated terracotta clay and are intended for indoor use. The surface is not completely waterproof, which is why a plastic insert should always be used when adding water.

For cleaning, a damp cloth is sufficient. If needed, the surface can be gently polished afterwards.

Upholstery & Outdoor Cushions

Gommaire cushions are made from outdoor-friendly fabrics and quick-drying foam. During the outdoor season, they can remain outside, but should be brought indoors during heavy rain or throughout the winter months.

The covers are removable and washable at 30°C. Tip: place the covers back on while they are still slightly damp to help maintain their original shape.

Please note with new teak furniture: it may release natural teak oil, which can leave marks on light-coloured fabrics. These stains can usually be removed easily with mild soap and a sponge. For more intensive fabric care, Gommaire recommends the Tex’Aktiv care range.

Glass, Candles & Accessories

Gommaire’s mouth-blown glass pieces feature unique textures and subtle irregularities. These are not imperfections, but rather a sign of authentic craftsmanship and artisanal production.

The scented candles are available in two fragrance collections: a neutral scent suitable year-round, and a warm, spicy fragrance designed for autumn and winter. Important: during the first use, do not let the candle burn for more than one hour to allow the wax to melt evenly. Avoid placing candles in drafty areas, as sudden temperature changes may cause the glass to crack.
